Painting 3

For this painting, we had to work on a surface that already had marks on it. I chose to paint on a dress pattern. This surface again was an experiment for me, because i wasn't too sure how the paper would take the pigments.

I think this painting was a case of me not knowing when to stop. I ended up cropping it quite a bit, but i think the result is okay.

More stuff from life drawing.

For this painting, I had to work on a piece of found wood. I ended up working on 2 pieces because the 1 was too narrow.

I think, this one was okay. I spent a lot of time fighting with it, trying to figure out how to use watercolours on wood. I didn't like the staining effect I was getting to begin with, so I ended up mixing my pigments with rice paste, which worked like a charm, although, after it dried, there was a sheen to it.

over-all, i like it, although i'm not entirely satisfied with it.

So, I decided to update you guys on some of the work i've been doing. None of it has really been 'illuatration' but i'm super enjoying it : )

This is the oversized painting i did in life drawing.

Apparently it is hard to tell what it is.... this is her back... and she's holding a parasol. The image isn't quite as vibrant as the original, I can't seem to get the colours in the photograph. I worked on mylar with watercolour on this one. it is fairly large, over 3 feet in both directions.

I am pretty happy with it. I think it turned out well, and i like working oversized. This painting also got me onto mylar. I absolutely LOVE it.

This is a series i did for my printmaking class. I was using a technique called yukio-eh. Basically using rice paste to transfer the pigments onto paper. For this series, I used a stencil to block out the eyeglass motifs.

I think I was okay with the technique, although it is kind of fussy. I am pretty happy with my prints : )

so, summer is here. and while i have not felt like doing anything, i've had to. which kind of sucks. so before i started summer school, i decided to have a small taste of summer vacation, meaning a bbq party. : D This is the invite i created. it was just the image, the information was on a seperate part of the invite.

it's not my favourite piece i've ever done, but i am quite satisfied with it.

Movie Poster

This Movie Poster was based on Pater Greenaway's The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover.

I experimented a bit with papercutting on this one. I like it, but it is pretty tedious. Totally makes me in awe of Hina Aoyama's work. I mean, I was cutting for one hour with those tiny scissors, and my fingers were killing me. and her work is infinately more detailed then mine was. Even then, I ended up using an exacto knife for some of the smaller cuts.

So, this is one of the projects this year, I struggled a lot with. It was a mostly structural project, which is something I have never done. So, it isn't perfect, but I am really proud of it.

The assignment was to package multiples of the same product, whether they were already sold in groups or not, and to redesign it so that it revealed the product, but also kept it safe and make the package more sustainable (a lot of the packaging stuff is about that... huh).

I know it isn't perfect, but as i said, I am proud of what I achieved.

Terry's Painting

This is the painting I did for Terry's class, hence the title. There isn't really a concept behind it, I just found a picture I liked, tweeked it a bit, and then painted it. Overall, I am quite satisfied.

I know. Terrible picture. I will take a better one when I feel more up to it.

Watercolours : D hoorah!

So, this year, I've been doing a lot of watercolour stuff in my life drawing class. I think i've improved a lot and am quite satisfied with some of the work i've done in that class.

I really like the textures in this one, even though the drawing isn't that great.

This one, I did the drawing with crayon. I think I like the way it looks, but I'm not entirely sure it would work out every time..

This last one I think is the best one I've done so far. The colours are a lot more saturated then most of the others, and I really liked working on a different type of water colour paper.

Holiday Record Guide

book cover for david suzuki's green guide. I had fun with the type on this one, although, my prof totally killed me on the grade. She stated it was too Graphic Design, not enough Illustration. Oh well. I like it ^_^. Originally, I wasn't going to include Mr. Suzuki's face on it, but I think his face is so iconic and such a selling point, it would be beneficial to have it included. Although, I'm not entirely happy with the integration of him into the rest of the cover. Still, I like it. : )

This is a character I created based on a song. I can't recall the song right now, but it was bluesy and mellow. ^_^

I also really like frogs, and drawing frogs, so there you are. haha : )

mmMMMMmmmm Chocolate

This is a chocolate bar wrapper I made for my packaging class. The name of the product came from the prof. The target market was young males aged 16-25. It is supposed to convey energy as one of the ingredients in the bar is a caffeine supplement. This is just the P.D.P.

This is a comp of it : ) The picture isn't the best, but you get the gist of it.

I really enjoyed working on this project, but I don't think I will do any more packaging projects. : p haha

This is the invitation to my birthday party this year : ) i had a tonne of fun working on it. a friend of mine created the background pattern and I played around with the type.
